Who We Are - History

An Innovative Response to Long-Term Challenges

The forest products community and its working families are under assault. Court decisions, regulatory action and legislative proposals threaten an industry shutdown and permanent prohibition of timber harvesting. In response, forest products companies and the labor unions representing their workers promote working forests – forests that enhance the environment but also provide livelihoods for communities and wood and paper products for all Americans.

Out of this common interest, the Forest Products Industry National Labor Management Committee was formed in 1990. The Committee has become a national vehicle for labor management cooperation on shared public policy issues.

Whether the issue is related to forest health and management, energy and tax policy or green buildings, and whether the debate centers in the Northwest, South, Great Lakes States, or Northeast, this partnership allows labor and management to create policy and take action based on mutual interests.
